The Work Program

The prospecting licence application is for gypsum mining.  PL007378 is on private farming land within the parish of Nypo in northwest Victoria.  The prospecting licence is approximately 30 kilometres west of the township of Hopetoun and adjacent to the Conways current licences PL006736 and MIN5327.  The depth of the gypsum is expected to be between 2 to 5 meters from the natural surface level.  The area has been previously mined in the past and so has been previously disturbed.

The basic cycle of the operation is as follows:

  • The topsoil, leaf litter and humus are set aside into heaps adjacent to the excavation area.

  • Any overburden is to be removed using a dozer or traxcavator. The material is stacked adjacent to the excavation.

  • The gypsum material is firstly ripped and then picked up and transported to the screening plant.

  • The gypsum is screened and placed in stockpiles for loading onto road trucks.

  • The overburden and oversize from the screening plant is then returned to the mined out area, flattened and contoured as necessary and the surface topsoil material is placed over the top of this.

  • The area will be rehabilitated in accordance with the landowner.
